Arsenal advanced to the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night following a 0-0 draw against Sporting at Emirates Stadium, progressing 1-0 on aggregate.

A single goal from Kai Havertz in the first leg in Portugal proved decisive, as Mikel Arteta’s side successfully defended their narrow advantage to secure a place in the final four.

Despite a dominant start from the hosts, Sporting created the more significant opportunities in the first half. Efforts from Francisco Trincão and Pedro Gonçalves, alongside a misplaced pass by goalkeeper David Raya, tested the Gunners’ resolve before Geny Catamo struck the post with a volley from a Maxi Araújo cross.

The atmosphere at Emirates Stadium grew increasingly tense as the match progressed, with supporters mindful of the slim lead and the club’s recent Premier League loss to Bournemouth.

Sporting continued to threaten in the second half, with Araújo missing a clear chance from inside the penalty area. Arsenal nearly doubled their aggregate lead late in the game when substitute Leandro Trossard directed a header against the post from a corner.

The result marks the first time in Arsenal’s history that they have reached consecutive semi-finals in the competition. They are now set to face Atletico Madrid for a spot in the final.
