The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for the report on the mediation of the Bawku conflict to be binding on all parties involved, as part of efforts to achieve lasting peace in the area.

Presenting the mediation report to President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, December 16, Otumfuo explained that the process was a mediation exercise and not arbitration, stressing that its purpose was to promote peace rather than determine fault.

“I’m here to present the facts as they are for us to have peace. I’m not here to give a judgment as to who was right or wrong. The report should bind on all of us. I have explained to the various parties. It was mediation, not arbitration,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to President Mahama for the confidence reposed in him to lead the mediation process aimed at resolving the long-standing conflict in Bawku.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was appointed earlier in 2025 by President Mahama to spearhead mediation efforts to address the decades-old chieftaincy dispute.

The mediation process began in April 2025, with the Asantehene holding separate consultations with representatives of the feuding factions to encourage dialogue and build trust.

Although the talks were temporarily suspended, they resumed in May 2025 and have since contributed to a period of relative calm in the conflict-prone municipality.
