The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2025 provisional WASSCE results for school candidates, revealing a sharp decline in performance across key core subjects, particularly Mathematics. According to a statement issued on Saturday, November 29, 2025, by WAEC’s Head of Public Relations, John Kapi, the results for Ghana show a steep drop in the proportion of candidates scoring A1–C6.

Core Mathematics recorded the most dramatic fall, with only 48.73% of candidates passing, down from 66.86% in 2024—an 18-percentage-point decline. A total of 114,872 candidates failed the subject outright. Social Studies performance also slipped significantly from 71.53% in 2024 to 55.82% this year. English Language and Integrated Science posted marginal declines, continuing the inconsistent performance trends observed from 2022 to 2025.

The release of results came with widespread sanctions for examination malpractice. WAEC cancelled the subject results of 6,295 candidates and annulled the entire results of 653 candidates for possession of foreign materials and mobile phones during the exam. Additionally, results of more than 1,000 candidates have been withheld pending investigations, along with subject results from 185 schools suspected of collusion.

The integrity crisis extended to exam personnel, with 35 teachers and supervisors implicated in aiding malpractice. WAEC confirmed that 19 individuals have already been convicted in court, while 16 others face pending prosecution. The list of convicted teachers will be forwarded to the Ghana Education Service for further disciplinary action.

A total of 461,736 candidates registered for the 2025 WASSCE, a slight increase over 2024. Candidates can access their results online, with WAEC cautioning the public against fraudsters offering result upgrades.
