The final funeral rites for Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, former Minister for Defence and a former Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will take place on Saturday, December 13, at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua. A statement from the Presidency said the ceremony will begin at 12:00 noon and is expected to draw family members, government officials, NDC executives, state dignitaries and members of the public.

Dr Omane Boamah died on August 6, 2025, in a military helicopter crash involving a Harbin Z-9EH aircraft operated by the Ghana Air Force. All eight people on board lost their lives, including senior government officials and military personnel: Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Samuel Sarpong, Samuel Aboagye, Sqn. Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Widely respected for his service in government and within the NDC, Dr Omane Boamah’s death has been described as a major national loss.
