Social media influencer Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia4Reall, has entered a guilty plea in a $2 million romance scam case, as reported by the United States Attorney’s Office website.

Hajia4Reall’s plea comes after her reported extradition from the United Kingdom to the United States in May 2023. She is accused of involvement in a scam that specifically targeted older, single Americans.

In admitting guilt, Hajia4Reall acknowledged one count of conspiring to receive stolen money, a charge carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison. As part of the plea agreement, she also agreed to forfeit $2,164,758.41 and make restitution in the same amount. The sentencing, presided over by U.S. District Judge Paul A. Crotty, is scheduled for a later date.

The announcement of the guilty plea was made by Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Williams underscored the gravity of consequences for individuals involved in romance scams, emphasizing the harm inflicted on vulnerable, elderly victims who fell prey to deceptive online romantic connections.

Prosecutors provided background information revealing that Hajia4Reall was associated with a criminal enterprise based in Ghana. This organization committed various frauds against individuals and businesses in the United States, with a focus on romance scams that deceived victims into transferring money to accounts controlled by the enterprise members.

Initially entering a plea of not guilty to all charges in May 2023, Hajia4Reall was released on bail. However, on June 26, 2023, she posted on Instagram, since deleted, reiterating her innocence. In the post, she expressed gratitude for the support from her fans and conveyed confidence in eventual vindication.
