Ghana has recorded a 5.1% decline in armed robbery cases, with the total number of incidents falling to 1,142 during the latest review period, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has announced.

The Minister also revealed a significant decrease in highway robberies, which dropped from 312 to 228 cases following focused security operations on major transport routes. Speaking at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) WASSA 2025 celebration at the CID Headquarters, the Minister credited the department’s efforts for the reduction in violent crime.

“The overall crime situation has shown a considerable improvement in recent times, largely attributable to prompt responses to crime scenes, intelligence-led policing strategies, and enhanced community engagement,” Hon. Muntaka stated.

To further combat complex and cyber-related crimes, the Minister announced government plans to modernize the national fingerprint system and increase investments in artificial intelligence for criminal intelligence analysis. He expressed optimism for the future of the Ghana Police Service, urging personnel to maintain professional standards and unity.

Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, commended the workforce and the Inspector-General of Police for their dedication throughout the year. She noted that the department has made strides in using social media platforms like Meta and TikTok for intelligence gathering. COP Donkor also highlighted successes in child protection and the recovery of missing children, while calling on officers to uphold integrity and accountability.
