President John Dramani Mahama has called on the newly sworn-in Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, to ensure that the country’s justice system remains fair, balanced, and accessible to all Ghanaians.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Monday, November 17, President Mahama said he is confident in Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s leadership and urged him to uphold the protection of human rights and civil liberties.
“I trust that under your stewardship, the Judiciary will ensure the protection of human rights and civil liberties and that justice is not tilted in favour of the wealthy or powerful,” he said.
The President urged the Chief Justice to strengthen specialised courts and divisions to address issues such as family welfare, land disputes, commercial matters, environmental protection, and corruption. He also encouraged the expansion of alternative dispute resolution systems, especially for family and community-related cases.
“Justice must not be an abstract principle confined to law books. It must be seen, felt, and experienced in the daily life of our people,” he said.
President Mahama also called for further investment in the Judicial Training Institute to enhance continuing legal education and ensure judges and magistrates remain well-equipped to deliver justice effectively and impartially.
