President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the Chief Justice of Ghana at a ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Monday, November 17, 2025.

The appointment follows Parliament’s approval of his nomination on November 13, where he secured 163 votes in favour and 69 against. Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, who has served across the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, had been Acting Chief Justice since April after the suspension and subsequent dismissal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Appearing before the Appointments Committee on November 10, he pledged to pursue bipartisan leadership, strengthen judicial independence, and enhance access to justice.

With the swearing-in complete, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie formally assumes full duties as head of Ghana’s judiciary.
