Workers of the National Identification Authority under the Public Services Workers’ Union have commenced an indefinite nationwide strike over unresolved concerns regarding their conditions of service.

The industrial action follows the expiration of a seven-day notice earlier issued by the union. In a directive released by the NIA Division of the union, members across the country were instructed not to report to work until their demands are addressed.

The statement declared that beginning Wednesday, May 13, 2026, workers should stay away from their posts “until further notice” and until their concerns are resolved. Prior to the strike, employees had also been directed to wear red clothing or red armbands on May 11 and 12 as a show of solidarity and protest.

Union leaders stressed that the strike would remain in force until authorities respond to the grievances raised by workers. Regional officers have also been tasked with ensuring full compliance with the directive nationwide.

The statement was jointly signed by Assistant Divisional Secretary Godsway Ayivor Bismark and Divisional Chairman Francis Bangfudem Nyuzaghl, who urged members to remain united throughout the industrial action.

The strike is expected to disrupt key services at NIA offices across the country, including Ghana Card registration, replacement and update services, unless government officials and union leaders reach an agreement.
