The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced an upward adjustment in utility tariffs, increasing electricity prices by 3.49 percent and water tariffs by 0.85 percent, effective July 1, 2026.

The Commission said the decision is part of its quarterly tariff review mechanism, which takes into account key economic indicators such as inflation, exchange rates, fuel costs, and the electricity generation mix.

According to PURC, the adjustment is aimed at maintaining the financial stability of utility providers while ensuring continued reliable service delivery.

It explained that the review considered a weighted average exchange rate of GH¢11.2228 to the US dollar, a three-month average inflation rate of 3.43 percent, and a reduced average cost of natural gas used in thermal power generation.

Based on these factors, electricity tariffs will rise across all customer categories, while water tariffs will see a marginal increase due to similar cost pressures in production and distribution.

The Commission assured consumers that it will continue monitoring utility performance to ensure efficiency, reliability, and value for money.
