Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says the United States has assured Ghana it will not obstruct the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and former MASLOC Chief Executive Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu as part of ongoing bilateral cooperation.
Mr Ablakwa disclosed this after a meeting in Accra with acting US Ambassador to Ghana, Rolf Olson, where discussions focused on security and law enforcement collaboration between the two countries. He said the US government had made clear its willingness to cooperate, without prejudice to ongoing judicial processes.
Ken Ofori-Atta was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in January 2026 in connection with issues relating to his US residency, following Ghana’s formal extradition request over corruption and procurement-related charges being pursued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor. He remains in custody as US authorities assess his immigration status and the extradition request.
Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu, who was convicted in Ghana in 2024 for causing financial loss to the state, is also the subject of an extradition request currently under review by the US Department of Justice.
