The Central East Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has arrested 13 drivers for unlawfully using sirens and emergency lights during a special road safety operation on the Kasoa–Winneba Highway.

The enforcement exercise, carried out on May 30, 2026, at Budumburam, was part of ongoing efforts by the police to strengthen compliance with road traffic laws and promote responsible driving practices across the region.

According to the MTTD, the motorists were found operating vehicles fitted with sirens and emergency lamps without the necessary authorisation, contrary to Regulations 65 and 74 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).

As part of the operation, officers educated the offenders on the relevant legal provisions before processing them through the appropriate legal channels. The unauthorised sirens and emergency lights were removed from the vehicles, and the drivers were issued warning letters and cautioned against future violations.

The Central East Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and maintaining safety and order on Ghana’s roads, urging motorists to adhere strictly to the law.
