Nana Ama Bonsu has been officially outdoored as the 15th Asantehemaa (Queen Mother of Asante), succeeding the late Nana Konadu Yiadom III, during a traditional ceremony held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on July 6, 2026.

Her installation marks the end of the transition period following the passing of Nana Konadu Yiadom III in 2025 and restores one of the most significant traditional leadership positions in the Asante Kingdom.

Asantehemaa plays a vital role in the governance and preservation of Asanteman, serving as the custodian of the royal lineage and holding the authority to nominate and guide the selection of an Asantehene when the Golden Stool becomes vacant. The office also carries responsibility for promoting Asante customs, advising traditional leadership, and advocating for the welfare of women, children and the broader community.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III was installed in 2017 by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, following the death of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, one of the longest-serving queen mothers in Asante history.

The outdooring of Nana Ama Bonsu is regarded as a continuation of the Asante Kingdom’s long-standing traditional leadership structure, with the Manhyia Palace expected to release further details about her background and profile in due course.
