The Supreme Court has granted the Bank of Ghana’s application to suspend the enforcement of a Court of Appeal judgment that ordered the restoration of GN Savings and Loans Limited’s operating licence.

The ruling means GN Savings cannot rely on the appellate court’s decision while the Supreme Court considers the central bank’s appeal. The Bank of Ghana challenged the June 2026 Court of Appeal judgment, which found in favour of GN Savings after its licence was revoked during the country’s financial sector clean-up.

The apex court’s eventual decision is expected to determine whether the Bank of Ghana acted within its legal mandate in revoking the company’s licence and clarify the scope of the regulator’s powers under Ghana’s financial regulatory framework.

GN Savings was among several financial institutions affected by the financial sector reforms carried out between 2017 and 2019 to strengthen the banking industry, protect depositors and address governance and solvency concerns. The stay of execution preserves the current legal position until the Supreme Court delivers its final judgment.
