The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has announced an increase in the prize money for the upcoming 2026/27 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season, raising the winner’s cash reward from GHS2 million to GHS3 million.
Addressing delegates at the GFA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress, Okraku revealed that each of the 18 participating top-flight clubs will also receive a GHS1 million grant prior to the start of the campaign. He explained that the financial enhancement aligns with the governing body’s strategic commitment to invest directly in domestic football and incentivize top performances.
The 2026/27 GPL campaign is scheduled to kick off between September 4 and September 7, 2026, running through May 28 to May 31, 2027. The upcoming season will feature three newly promoted sides making their top-flight debuts: Debibi United, FC AshantiGold 04, and Port City FC.
