Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticised his arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), calling it unjustified and part of what he describes as a “suicide mission” led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

“This whole episode is a suicide mission that Kissi Agyebeng’s OSP has embarked on. He may claim he has nothing to do with it, but he is the head of the institution,” Mr Kpebu asserted.

Kpebu was detained on Wednesday, December 3, after a confrontation with security personnel upon arriving at the OSP headquarters to assist investigations into corruption allegations he has made against the Special Prosecutor. He noted that the arrest happened even before investigators engaged him, insisting he had “done nothing to warrant arrest.”

Following his release, Kpebu accused the OSP of adopting reckless tactics that threaten the institution’s credibility. He argued that only an independent body, not officers under the Special Prosecutor, can fairly investigate the allegations he has raised.

The arrest deepens tensions between Kpebu and the OSP. The lawyer has long criticised the office’s internal procedures, including the use of junior officers in sensitive matters, and has questioned its handling of high-profile cases such as the investigation involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, which he says failed to meet key procedural standards.
