One person has died and another is in critical condition following an electrocution incident at Sefwi Boako in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, with residents accusing the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) of negligence.

The incident occurred after ECG engineers in Sefwi Wiawso reportedly carried out repair works on an electricity line but failed to switch off the main power supply before leaving the site. Residents say the line remained live and later caused the fatal electrocution, leaving another victim battling for life at a medical facility.

Angry community members say the tragedy could have been prevented and insist it is not the first such occurrence in the area. Speaking in an interview, traditional leaders revealed that a similar incident claimed a life last year, yet no lasting safety measures were put in place.

The chiefs and residents are demanding urgent action from ECG to prevent further loss of life, while some youths have warned of possible protests and refusal to pay electricity bills if the company fails to take responsibility and improve safety during maintenance works.

The community has also called on ECG and relevant authorities to immediately investigate the incident and ensure such negligence does not recur.
