John Dramani Mahama has used humour to encourage healthier lifestyles, cautioning Ghanaians against eating heavy meals late at night. Speaking at the launch of the Free Primary Healthcare Initiative on April 15, he linked the rise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to poor eating habits and increasingly sedentary lifestyles.

The President joked about the common practice of eating large portions of foods such as banku late in the evening, advising that dinner should ideally be eaten earlier, preferably before 7 PM. He noted that while previous generations also consumed heavy meals, they were more physically active, unlike many people today who spend long hours sitting at work.

His remarks formed part of a broader push under the healthcare initiative to promote lifestyle changes and reduce the growing burden of chronic diseases through public education.
