The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold a protest in Sunyani following the arrest of its Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, also known as Baba Amando.
The demonstration, dubbed “Yen Suro Ahunahuna” (meaning “We are not afraid of intimidation”), is expected to draw party supporters and residents, with organizers raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding his detention.
Party officials argue the arrest raises questions about the protection of fundamental rights, including freedom of speech and political expression, and say the protest will also highlight broader concerns about democratic principles and the rule of law.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of adequate security and urged participants to remain peaceful and comply with regulations governing public demonstrations.
