The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced plans to begin a special night-time enforcement operation targeting food vendors operating without mandatory medical screening within the metropolis.

According to the Assembly, the initiative is part of efforts to improve food safety standards, strengthen sanitation, and protect residents from foodborne diseases in Accra. AMA Public Affairs Head, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, explained that while many daytime vendors comply with screening requirements due to regular monitoring, a number of night-time operators have been avoiding the process.

He directed all night food vendors to complete their medical screening by the end of the week, warning that enforcement will begin on Monday. Vendors who fail to comply risk having their food confiscated, being arrested, or barred from selling.

The Assembly advised vendors to visit designated screening centres, including the Okaikoi South, Ablekuma South, and Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan Offices, as well as the AMA Metropolitan Health Directorate at the AMA Head Office in Accra, to complete the process.

The AMA reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing public health regulations and ensuring compliance across all food vendors, regardless of operating hours.
