The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has announced an indefinite nationwide strike starting Monday, January 19, in protest against the government’s failure to pay eight months of salary arrears owed to judicial service employees.

The arrears stem from a 10 per cent base pay increase approved for public sector workers in 2025 and backdated to January 1 of that year. While workers in other sectors benefited from the adjustment earlier, judicial staff only began receiving the increased salaries in September 2025, with assurances that arrears covering January to August would be settled before the end of the fiscal year.
JUSAG says repeated engagements with government and written assurances, including a commitment made on December 16, 2025, to pay the arrears within the month, were not honoured. The association described the situation as unbearable, citing severe financial hardship faced by members, especially during the festive period.
The strike action, which is expected to disrupt court operations nationwide, will remain in force until the full payment of the outstanding salary arrears, JUSAG’s National Executive Council has said.
