The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Council has officially confirmed Mawuko Afadzinu of Ghana as the Chair of the ITTF Sustainability Committee. The announcement, which underscores Afadzinu’s expanding role in global sports governance, was shared with stakeholders by Nathaniel Kwesi Somuah, the Ghana Table Tennis Association’s (GTTA) Head of Communications.

Afadzinu holds the distinction of being the sole African currently chairing an ITTF Permanent Committee. His reappointment comes at a time when the federation is accelerating its “Planet Game Plan 2030,” a strategic initiative focused on environmental responsibility, carbon emission reduction, and governance reform across its global member associations.

Throughout his tenure, Afadzinu has been credited with directing the committee’s focus toward stakeholder engagement and sustainability education. His leadership is viewed as a significant boost for African representation in international policy-making, signaling a shift where the continent contributes as much to the sport’s strategic administration as it does to its competitive arena.

The confirmation further establishes Ghana’s presence within the ITTF’s administrative framework. As sustainability becomes a primary focus for international sports, Afadzinu’s role positions both Ghana and the broader African continent as key drivers of environmental and structural change within the global table tennis community.
