Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Boamah has raised alarm in Parliament over what he claims is a hidden government plan to increase airport passenger service charges from GH₵5 to GH₵100. Describing the proposed hike as “astronomical and unjustifiable,” the MP said the move would impose an excessive financial burden on both domestic and international travellers, further compounding rising transportation costs.

Boamah criticised the government for allegedly concealing the proposed adjustment in its report, stressing that a 1,000 percent increase cannot be justified at a time when travel is already becoming unaffordable for many Ghanaians.

However, the Minister for Transport rejected the claim that any such increase has been approved. He clarified that the figures cited by the MP are merely recommendations captured in the Fees and Charges Bill, which must undergo full parliamentary scrutiny before any decision is made. The Minister added that the proposals are still under discussion and are not aimed at domestic aviation.
