President Akufo-Addo has delegated additional responsibilities to certain Ministers to address vacancies in various Ministries lacking substantive ministers.
On Wednesday, February 14, the president executed his inaugural significant reshuffle, involving the removal of certain ministers from his government and the reassignment of others to alternative ministries.
One noteworthy change involves the temporary oversight of the Sanitation and Water Resources Ministry by Railway Minister John Peter Amewu. This arrangement will persist until Lydia Seyram Alhassan completes the vetting process, the timeline of which is yet to be determined.
Similarly, Interior Minister Henry Quartey will assume management of the Greater Accra Region until Nii Kwartei Titus Glover takes on the role of Greater Accra Regional Minister.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, currently serving as the Minister of Works and Housing, will continue to shoulder the responsibilities of the Information Ministry until his former deputy, Fatimatu Abubakar, undergoes vetting and receives approval from Parliament.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who holds the position of head of the Communications Ministry, has been additionally tasked with overseeing the Health Ministry until Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye assumes the role following official swearing-in.
Osei Bonsu Amoah is set to temporarily manage the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry until the substantive minister, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, receives approval. Archibald Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, has been assigned the temporary responsibility of overseeing the Oti region.
Hawa Koomson, serving as the Fisheries Minister, will assume control of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection until Darkoa Newman assumes the position. Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, will temporarily lead the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation until Ophelia Quansah Hayford takes charge.
These Ministers will fulfil their additional roles to ensure a smooth and efficient governance approach in their respective sectors until substantive ministers are sworn in. This decision aligns with the government’s objective to enhance administrative efficiency and performance across ministries.
