Two candidates writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Nkwanta South Municipality in the Oti Region have resumed their exams after sustaining injuries in a motorbike accident while on their way to the examination centre.
The students were rushed to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, where they received treatment before being transported to continue their papers.
Municipal Education Director Jonathan Korsinah confirmed the incident, noting that such risks could have been avoided if candidates had been camped closer to their centres. However, ongoing insecurity in the area has made parents reluctant to allow their wards to stay away from home.
He explained that examination regulations do not permit candidates to write papers at hospitals, making it necessary for the injured students to return to the exam centre after receiving care.
Korsinah also expressed concern about the broader impact of insecurity on education in the municipality, citing disrupted school attendance and a decline in recent BECE performance, despite the presence of security personnel in the area.
