The Ministry of Finance has transferred GH¢350 million from the Contingency Fund to dedicated National Disaster Management Committee accounts to support emergency flood response and long-term mitigation efforts following severe flooding across parts of Ghana.

The release of the funds follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who instructed Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to mobilise resources for immediate relief and flood prevention measures. In line with Article 177 of the 1992 Constitution, the minister secured parliamentary approval through the Finance Committee before authorising the withdrawal.

The Controller and Accountant-General subsequently opened a dedicated account at the Bank of Ghana and transferred the full GH¢350 million to finance the National Emergency Flood Response Programme.

Of the total amount, GH¢200 million has been allocated for emergency relief to flood victims and affected communities, while GH¢150 million will fund flood mitigation projects aimed at reducing the frequency and impact of future flooding.

The funding is intended to provide immediate assistance to affected communities while supporting longer-term measures to strengthen Ghana’s resilience against recurring floods.
