President John Dramani Mahama has concluded his four-day state visit to Jamaica with a tour of Seville Heritage Park in St. Ann, where he visited the preserved Ghanaian Village Houses to honour the shared history between Ghana and Jamaica.
During the visit, President Mahama laid a wreath in memory of Africans who were taken across the Atlantic during the transatlantic slave trade and later attended a Great House Reception with Jamaican officials, diplomats and members of the Ghanaian delegation.
Addressing guests, the President underscored the deep historical and cultural ties between Ghana and Jamaica and called for stronger cooperation in trade, tourism, investment, education and cultural exchange. He also renewed his call for a direct air link between the two countries to boost connectivity and economic relations.
Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, described Ghana and Jamaica as one family united by shared ancestry, while Culture Minister Olivia Grange called for deeper collaboration in tourism and cultural development.
President Mahama later attended a State Dinner hosted by Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen and Lady Allen, bringing his official visit to a close.
