The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has inaugurated a new premium service centre in Bantama, Kumasi, aimed at bringing its services closer to residents and reducing the influence of middlemen, popularly known as “goro boys.”
At the commissioning, DVLA Chief Executive Julius Neequaye Kotey said the facility is part of efforts to enhance service delivery, transparency, and alignment with the government’s ‘Reset Agenda’. He explained that by expanding DVLA’s presence, illicit activities by middlemen would naturally decline without the need for police intervention.
The Bantama office was developed through a Public-Private Partnership with Midcity Auto Service. It is equipped with modern technology integrated into DVLA’s digital systems to ensure faster, efficient, and convenient services. Residents can access a full range of DVLA services, including vehicle registration, driver’s licence issuance, licence renewal and replacement, licence upgrading, transfer of ownership, and conversion of foreign licences.
Mr. Kotey also highlighted the centre’s community outreach initiatives, designed to extend services to surrounding areas and reduce travel for residents. Agya Poku, Chief Operating Officer of Midcity Auto Service, noted that the centre offers comprehensive services, including a private vehicle testing station and an eye testing facility for licence applicants.
The new Bantama office is expected to improve access to DVLA services in Kumasi, promote efficiency, strengthen road safety compliance, and support the government’s efforts to curb the activities of unofficial intermediaries.
