A mobile money vendor was reportedly attacked by armed robbers at Walewale in the North East Region, with the suspects escaping with cash and a motorbike.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, when a group of gun-wielding men allegedly attacked the vendor during a money transfer transaction.
According to residents, a man had approached the vendor to send money when the armed suspects suddenly appeared and fired several shots, causing panic and forcing people in the area to seek safety.
The robbers allegedly seized the vendor’s cash bag before fleeing with the motorbike belonging to the man who had gone to conduct the transaction.
Residents said the motorbike had reportedly been purchased only a day earlier, making its loss particularly significant to the owner.
The broad-daylight attack has raised concerns over the safety of mobile money operators and other businesses in the area.
Some residents claimed the suspects were Fulani, but the allegation has not been independently verified. The identities and backgrounds of the suspected robbers remain unknown.
