Power supply has been restored to Tanyigbe Senior High School in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region after the school endured nearly a week without electricity following a rainstorm.
The outage began on May 22 when heavy rains and strong winds caused a tree to crash onto an electricity pole serving the school, leaving the campus in darkness and disrupting academic work.
The situation significantly affected teaching and learning, especially for final-year students preparing for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Students were forced to study at night using torchlights and other alternative lighting methods, while the school’s computer laboratory remained inaccessible during the blackout.
Following public concern over the situation, the Volta Regional branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) intervened and successfully restored power to the school.
School authorities expressed gratitude to ECG and all individuals who played a role in resolving the issue. Management said academic activities have now returned to normal, bringing relief to both students and staff.
According to the school, the return of electricity will help candidates writing the ongoing WASSCE to prepare adequately for their examinations without further interruptions.
The school also appealed for continued support to improve infrastructure and enhance conditions for effective teaching and learning.
Tanyigbe SHS serves several farming communities within the Ho Municipality, including Klave, Shia, Avee, Nyive, Tokokoe, Atikpui, and the Akoefe enclave.
