The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has secured GH¢100 million from the Government of Ghana to support the completion of the Krofrom Market project in Kumasi.
Speaking at the KMA General Assembly meeting at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, Mayor Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi disclosed that an estimated GH¢179 million is needed to fully complete the market project.
According to him, the funding was secured through the Social Investment Fund under the Ministry of Finance, while construction works have already resumed on site with Artachy Construction Limited serving as the main contractor.
The Mayor said the intervention demonstrates the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II towards the successful completion of the market.
He further revealed that a seven-member committee has been set up to oversee space allocation and operational arrangements for traders once the market is completed.
Mr Boadi also provided updates on the Kejetia Phase 2 Market project, stating that work remains temporarily stalled as authorities finalise financing and implementation arrangements to ensure efficient execution.
In addition, he disclosed that several satellite market projects across the Kumasi metropolis are being developed through Public-Private Partnership arrangements to improve trading infrastructure and boost commercial activities.
