The Ghana Navy, in collaboration with other national security and emergency response agencies, has carried out extensive rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected communities of Sogakope and Dabala following severe flooding that struck on June 29. The operation focused on evacuating stranded residents, protecting lives, and delivering emergency assistance to communities cut off by rising floodwaters.

The Navy’s Special Boat Squadron (SBS) played a central role in the mission, using specialised equipment such as Combat Rubber Raiding Crafts (CRRCs), ropes, lifebuoys, and other rescue gear to reach inaccessible areas and safely evacuate trapped residents. The unit worked alongside the Naval Training Command, while personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service also supported the response, although flood conditions limited access to some locations.

The operation highlighted the vulnerability of elderly residents and others with limited mobility, prompting renewed calls for improved disaster preparedness, targeted evacuation plans, and greater investment in flood response infrastructure and early warning systems. The Ghana Navy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting civil authorities during national emergencies and emphasised the importance of rapid response and inter-agency collaboration in mitigating the impact of natural disasters.
