The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has condemned reports that some ward managers are demanding money from nursing students before signing their clinical logbooks, describing the practice as unethical and damaging to the profession.
First Vice President of GRNMA, Samuel Alagkora Akolgo, expressed strong disapproval of the alleged conduct, calling it “disgraceful” and a betrayal of professional values. He warned that such actions undermine trust and integrity within the nursing field.
Speaking at an event in the Talensi District to mark International Women’s Day, Mr. Akolgo urged ward managers to desist from exploiting students, especially given the financial challenges many trainees currently face.
He also cautioned senior nurses against intimidating or harassing junior staff, stressing the need for supportive and inclusive working environments that foster professional growth.
The association says addressing such practices is essential to maintaining standards and protecting the future of nursing and midwifery in Ghana.
