The Ministry for the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following a shooting incident in Kwabenya, Accra, that reportedly left former Dome-Kwabenya MP Adwoa Safo hospitalised.
According to the Ministry, preliminary investigations revealed possible violations of regulations governing private security organisations, including the alleged use of unapproved uniforms and the possession and use of firearms and ammunition by the company’s personnel while providing security services.
The Ministry stated that such actions, if confirmed, constitute serious breaches of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), with significant implications for public safety and security.
As a result, Kantanka Security Services has been directed to immediately cease all operations pending the outcome of ongoing investigations. The Ministry has also advised institutions and organisations to suspend business dealings with the company until further notice.
Additionally, the company has been instructed to fully cooperate with the Ghana Police Service by providing all information required to support investigations into the incident.
The Ministry emphasised that the suspension is an administrative measure aimed at protecting public safety while authorities complete their inquiries, adding that further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and in accordance with the law.
