The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has announced plans to tighten registration requirements for petroleum tankers in a bid to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Chief Executive Officer Godwin Edudzi Tameklo said only tankers that meet rigorous operational and safety standards will be allowed to operate under the new measures.
Speaking at a Safety Week event organised by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, Tameklo emphasized that safety is a shared responsibility among tanker owners, drivers, unions, and regulators. He noted that the NPA will introduce strict checklists and performance criteria that must be met before any new tanker is registered, as part of efforts to enhance compliance and protect lives on Ghana’s roads.
